Lake Crest is a large neighborhood on the east side of Hoover that stretches from highway 150 off I-459 to Preserve Pkwy. near Moss Rock Park. The neighborhood has homes that were built between 1978 and 2010s, most built in the early 2000s. The neighborhood is only a 20-minute commute to downtown Birmingham and less than a 12-minute drive to the heart of the city of Hoover. Lake Crest is also has a short 15-minute commute to Lakeshore Dr. in Homewood. These culs-de-sac streets create small pockets of communities throughout the neighborhood. If you are looking for private streets for your kids to play, this neighborhood might be for you.
The neighborhood has many community spaces including the clubhouse and a community pool which can be used for resident events. As the neighborhood’s name suggests, there is a private lake in the neighborhood stocked with fish for fishing. The streets are well lit and lined with sidewalks to create a walkable neighborhood.
There is also a walking path, community playgrounds, and a barbecue area. Nearly every Thursday at the clubhouse, the neighborhood welcomes a local food truck to park for residences to pick up quick meals.
As of writing this blog (October 2018), there are 12 houses for sale in Lake Crest. Homes have a list price on average of $373,000. Homes on the market in Lake Crest have an average of 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms with over 3000 sq. ft. of living space. Between April and October of 2018, 8 homes were sold with an average of 14 days on the market and an average sale price of $360,000.
The neighborhood is zoned for the Hoover City School system. Hoover City Schools is a top-rated school system with both high schools ranking in the top 20 high schools in Alabama according to the US News. Residents are zoned to attend Gwin Elementary School, Simmons Middle School, and Hoover High School.
Hoover High School competes in Class 7A in the AHSAA with many sports for students to choose from including football, baseball, softball, basketball, track & field, lacrosse, swimming, soccer, and volleyball. The school also has academic programs including IB, AP, clubs, and academic teams. Hoover High School has an award-winning marching band and other options for concert bands including symphonic, jazz, and concert band. The school also has robust drama, choral, and visual arts programs.
Hoover High School also has what is called the Academies program. These include engineering, law, business and entrepreneurship, and health science. This program is designed to allow students to explore specific paths in their educational future and prepare for rigorous college programs.
Shopping and Entertainment
The neighborhood is a short trip down highway 150 to Hoover's shopping, dining, and entertainment. The Riverchase Galleria has 1.6 million square feet with over 200 stores. Stores include Van Maur, Belk, Macy's, Lego, Sephora, Build-A-Bear Workshop, H&M, and more. Across the street from the Galleria is Patton Creek with great dining and one of the best movie theaters in the area with an IMAX screen and Real D Theater, as well as local retailers.
Along Hwy 150 there are several shopping centers which feature a Super Target, At Home, Kohl's, Sprout’s Market, local and fast food restaurants. Your kids will love Let’s Play located in The Grove shopping center. More shops to come with the new shopping center being constructed down the road with an Aldi opening up this winter (2019). For some peace of mind, UAB MedWest Emergency Room nearby as well as several animal clinics.
The Hoover YMCA is a 5-minute drive west from Lake Crest Built in a converted grocery store, the YMCA has a pool that is also used in the winter with help of a cover, a splash pad, afterschool activities, summer programs, sports teams for kids, and a center for kids while their parents attend classes or come by for their regular exercise. There is a wide variety of machines, equipment, and classes for guided workouts. There is also an indoor track on the second level.
