A short drive from downtown Birmingham but situated in more suburban Shelby County, Helena is a sought-after city that has flourished in the past few decades.

In 2007, Business Week ranked Helena among the best places in the country to raise kids. The same year, Money Magazine placed the city in the top 100 best places to live in the U.S. The city continues to receive national recognition for its safety and livability.

The city’s monthly Helena City News keeps residents updated on community happenings and upcoming events, like regular citywide block parties.

Go fishing or canoeing on Buck Creek, and enjoy the outdoors in Helena’s Cahaba Lily Park. Play baseball and basketball at the Helena Sports Complex or spend a summer night at a concert in the Old Town Helena Amphitheater.

The city joins nearby Alabaster and Pelham to form the north Shelby area. The schools, including a new high school, are part of the Shelby County school system.

Helena is highly regarded as a place to live and raise children; Business Week named Helena the 13th “Best Place to Raise Your Kids” in 2007. It has the eighth lowest crime rate per population in the U.S., and the city was ranked in Money Magazine’s 2007 list of “Best Places to Live: Top 100” in the U.S., placing at number 91.

Helena opened its own High School in 2014, current enrollment is around 1000 and it is a part of the Shelby County School System. The whole town is filled with Huskie Pride.
