The Riverwoods neighborhood is located in Helena, Alabama on county road 52 in Northern Shelby County. The neighborhood has a convenient commute to Downtown Birmingham and the shopping on Hwy 119 and Hwy 31. The neighborhood was designed to blend in with nature and celebrate the neighborhood trees and the Cahaba River with its meandering main roadway accented with natural boulders. Small details like bridges are built to blend into the surroundings with stone. Signature Homes and Prominence Homes are two of the current builders. There have been many quality builders that have left their mark on the neighborhood.

Amenities

Riverwoods embraces nature in its design, but also in its amenities. Located by the Cahaba River, there is fishing and a public Cahaba River access point for tubing and canoeing. There is also not uncommon to see one of Birmingham’s great food trucks at the clubhouse serving up something sweet. There are also community events, including neighborhood yard sales and more. The neighborhood also includes walking paths, parks and playgrounds, basketball court and a public lake to experience the beautiful nature of the neighborhood. There is also a clubhouse and community pool which is managed by McKay Management.

Riverwoods is a developing neighborhood with lots still available and more lots will be opening up in the future. The neighborhood is still under development with both builder owned and developer owned lots as of July 2017. Available lots, as well as homes in the neighborhood, come either on a slab or with a basement. Floor plan options are available at Signature Homes website. Plans vary from 3 to 5 bedrooms and 2.5 to 4 bathroom homes.

Schools

The neighborhood is zoned for Helena schools in the highly ranked Shelby County Schools System. Students will attend Helena Intermediate School, Helena High School, and Helena Elementary School, which is within walking distance of the neighborhood.  Students can participate in a large variety of sports at the high school including football, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, track and field, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling. The school also participates in academic clubs and teams and has a successful band and choir program. The school also participates in AP courses. HHS is ranked 54th of Alabama’s high schools by US News with just over 1,000 students. 

Helena Area

The neighborhood is located across the street from Cahaba Lily Park, which has a large playground, well-lit walking path, large open field, picnic area, and dense trees surrounding the park. A short distance away is Old Town Helena’s Depot Deli and Grill and local boutiques and Buck’s Creek, gives the small town feel that Helena residents love. Buck’s Creek is a popular spot for canoeing. The Bucks’ Creek Festival is a free community event that takes place on the second weekend in May at Helena’s Amphitheater Park on the banks of Buck’s Creek. There is great food, music, children’s activities, and all ages crafts. Helena was 13th on Business Week’s “Best Place to Raise Your Kids” list (2007), ranked Money Magazine’s 2007 “Best Places to Live: Top 100”, Alabama League of Municipalities 2008 Municipal Achievement Award, and #1 on Neiche Local’s Best Suburbs list (2015).
